Twas the Night Before Game One (2017 NLCS Edition)

Twas the night before game one of the N-L-C-S Every Cubs fan still stirring, from last night’s success. For their team had just done it, they woke up their bats, They had beaten ol’ Dusty, and vanquished the Nats.   It never looked pretty, but they never looked rattled, When down by three runs, they just battled and battled. NOT a Time for a Change

People that know me know I’m an old man when it comes to appreciating American’s pastime. I love watching a baseball game, regardless of how long or possibly painful the game may be (see all of my ticket stubs and scorecards from Chicago Cubs – the Starlin Castro-Era). People that don’t know me, read Baseball: Not Just Passed Time, a Pastime where I discuss the values of good ol’ fashioned, slow-paced baseball games. Maybe I lie in the minority, but baseball separates itself from other sports (and for good reason) by taking it’s time. Like chess, like Monopoly – yes, it’s … Continue reading NOT a Time for a Change

Eh, Never Mind

With the Cubs recently slumping, somewhat flattening my super-inflated expectations for this team, I decided that today was going to be the day that I finally join the crowd of panic-stricken fans who can’t bear to see the team go on lengthy losing-streaks to teams like the Marlins, Reds, and Mets. Perhaps last night’s marathon game against the Braves that ended in heartbreak, and the near $6.75 worth of quarters I now have to put in the swear jar was the tipping the point for me. But before I rant, I should tell you a story… Three weeks ago, my … Continue reading Eh, Never Mind
